From Gjin Tanushi to Tanush i Madh

Duka Gjin Tanushi who gave the name to the family is mentioned for the first time in 1280. His earliest descendants who are known by name are the two brothers Lekë and Pal Dukagjini. He had other male descendants as well but their genealogical link with the other Dukagjini hasn’t been established, hence they are not included in geneaological trees. These include for example Nicolaus, son Stephanus Ducagini who was involved in economic affairs in the city of Ragusa in 1377.

The name of the brother of Lekë and Pal Dukagjini is unknown. They are mentioned for the first time in 1387 in a trade treaty they signed with Ragusa. As they lived more than 100 years after Gjin Tanushi, they are presumed to be his great-grandchildren. From their brother, stems the line of Gjergj Dukagjini of Shkodra

The line of Lekë I Dukagjini through his son Tanush i Madh represents all modern-day descendants of the family
